Introduction
This course details the accountability Title III, Part A-funded local educational agencies (LEAs) are held to while providing services for immigrant children and youth. LEAs that experience an unexpected increase in the number or percentage of immigrant student population must be prepared to provide activities focused on enhancing instructional opportunities for this population and to ensure state academic standards can be met.

Course Objectives
After completing this course, participants will be able to
- define immigrant children and youth, per the Title III, Part A definition;
- explain an LEA’s responsibilities in providing Title III, Part A-funded services for immigrant students and their families; and
- clarify procedures and additional activities LEAs must conduct to assist in supporting services that help students experience a fluid transition into American society, an inclusive school environment, and high-quality instructional programs for academic achievement in English.
Note: According to Title III, Section 3115(e)(1)(A-G), LEAs/school districts include public schools and open enrollment charter schools (ESSA, 2016).
